Hope you all made it out to Main Street Block Party.  Eric Dean organized and curated a winner.  We had a great time seeing some really great bands --- MoTel Aviv, Literary Greats, Ton Tons, Empress Hotel, Electric Attitude, Finnegan, too many to name.  Chris Gray has a nice write-up here.  Hoping to see this festival again in January 2012.

Progress on the new album is slow and steady.  More slow than steady, but we're looking at early 2011 for a release date.  No wine before its time.

Delta Spirit is coming to town in July - we're very excited about that.  We've been dorking out about their album for a while now.  It is fantastic.  Check'em out if you have not already.

From Space City Rock:
I really love The Small Sounds. I can't say enough good things about these guys, seriously; they're up near the top, at least, of the small pile of really, really, really good local country-ish/-influenced roots-rock bands, and it's a hard call whether I like them, Buxton, or The Literary Greats the most. They're an awesome band. I'm still most fond of the slower, more melancholy songs ("Leave Virginia Girl", in particular), but they've really hooked me with the louder, more rocking songs now, too. See 'em soon, before they become at least city-wide household names.

Recording, plotting, scheming.  By the way, congrats, Omar, on what looks to be an incredible lineup for Summerfest this year.  You are the awesomest.

We recently received good news from our nations airwaves - In the last few weeks, our latest album was picked up by 40+ radio stations and in a number of these is already in the top 30 most played albums.  Also, Mark and Paul just finished off recording drums and bass for the new album so we’re officially knee deep in numero 2 …lots of good things going down and many many new tunes falling into place.

More kind words from our friends at Space City Rock, this time regarding our performance at Free Press Summerfest:

Well, Summerfest has come and gone, and we had a blast.  Congrats to Omar Afra at Free Press Houston and the folks at Pegstar for a massive success.  And the local bands who played . . . incredible.  Eastern Sea, Buxton, Sideshow Tramps, Southern Backtones, just to name a few.  We can't wait to see them play again.

We've got a great show on June 20 at Walter's with Elkhart from Dallas and The Literary Greats.  Elkhart has been getting rave reviews for their recent album The Moon, and The Literary Greats made the CMJ Top 200 for 2008.  We're excited to be playing with them and hope to see you there.

Some love from Space City Rock:

THE SMALL SOUNDS: One of the best, most genuinely great surprises of the Block Party for me, I just happened to catch The Small Sounds while meandering around & waiting for thelastplaceyoulook to show up over at the Avant Garden, and I'm totally glad I did. Nice, not-too-countryish roots rock, played by a bunch of guys who obviously know what they're doing; I was mesmerized when guitarist Craig Feazel sat down and started playing the pedal steel, in particular. A beautiful, beautiful sound, understated and melancholy but still confident as hell. Wow. I need to hear more...

Check out our album review in Free Press Houston:

The Small Sounds have carved them selves out an album out that is more country than 'Indie Country' but waaaaaay to the left of 'orthodox' Nashville Country. This 12-song full-length album has grit, tenacity, stellar vocals and playing, and sounds quintessentially Houston. The haunting tale of Mothers and Daughters is a pretty Texas country ditty played within the framework of a Beatles-esque progression (without sounding contrived). This album is recorded simply and cleanly without the corny sounding, over washed reverb that all the kids are using these days to record their brand of Country. Or whatever. As for live performance, The Small Sounds pull off all their antics on stage with ease and their harmonies are a delight.
